Chargers Have 7 Reach Double Figures vs. Bees, Win 5th in a Row

Seven players reached double figures to account for all of the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team’s scoring in an 83-69 victory over St. Ambrose JV on Friday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium, extending the Chargers’ winning streak to five games.
KEY MOMENTS
- Tied at 32 in the first half, Sandburg (19-6) scored 10 of the last 11 points, including the final seven in a row. Jean Luc Wilson (East Moline, Ill./United Township) had a nifty reverse layup with 1:40 to go for 37-33 lead, followed by a Cody Baer (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) steal-and-layup and a 3-pointer from Scott Gowan (Rockford, Ill./Rockford East) to close the half.
- Up 52-44, the Chargers doubled their lead with an 8-0 run that was kicked off by a Gowan reverse layup. Baer had a pair of baskets during the run, and Wilson added a baseline drive. The Fighting Bees didn’t closer than eight the rest of the way.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Freshman Vaughn Toyne (Petersburg, Ill./PORTA) paced the Chargers with 15 points in addition to three rebounds and three steals. Toyne scored 14 in the first half while going 6 of 7 from the floor.
OTHER TOP CHARGERS
- Fayhee finished with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.
- Wilson had 14 points, six rebounds and three steals.
- Gowan scored 13 on 5-of-10 shooting, including a pair of 3-pointers.
- Baer had 11 points and three boards.
- Noah Young (Colfax, Ill./Ridgeview) and James Jones (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) each scored 10 and had two assists and three steals. Young also collected six rebounds.
